Verisurf Software CMM Surface Finish Measurement

Verisurf Software CMM Surface Finish Measurement

Verisurf Software, Inc. unveils a new solution tailored for CNC CMMs equipped with the Renishaw REVO SFP2 (Surface Finish Probe), introducing a surface finish measurement probe and reporting functionality.

This feature is integrated into the forthcoming Verisurf 2024 release. Leveraging data directly from the Renishaw REVO SFP2 probe, Verisurf CMM programming now facilitates precise surface finish/roughness assessment ranging from 6.3 μm to 0.05 μm (250 μin to 2 μin) Ra, with results seamlessly integrated into automated quality reports. This integration is facilitated by Verisurf’s support for the Renishaw REVO multi-sensor 5-axis measurement system. Notably, the surface finish measurement capability is fully harmonized with the standard Verisurf CMM inspection program, including automated probe changes as per the inspection plan, thereby minimizing CMM downtime and optimizing inspection efficiency.

The REVO SFP2 is versatile, capable of operating on various surfaces, even on bores as small as 5mm (.196”), utilizing a 2, 5, or 10-micron radius diamond stylus tip. It provides output parameters such as Ra, RMS, and raw data, enabling further analysis and reporting. When coupled with Verisurf, this solution delivers comprehensive and precise data that can be cross-checked against a nominal 3D CAD model, empowering operators to make well-informed decisions concerning component quality and acceptance criteria.

Verisurf seamlessly interfaces with Renishaw-equipped CNC CMMs through the Verisurf Device Interface (VDI), ensuring bidirectional communication with a wide array of sensor types and brands. The VDI facilitates the transmission of programmed instructions for CMM operation and the collection of measurement data for subsequent analysis and processing.

Nick Merrell, Executive Vice President of Verisurf Software, Inc., expresses enthusiasm about the technology’s potential to enhance customers’ CMM investments. The inclusion of surface finish/roughness evaluation within an overarching inspection plan, coupled with automated reporting, represents a significant advancement. Depending on the specific application, many customers may find that dedicated optical and stylus profilometers become redundant or unnecessary.

Verisurf stands out as the sole measurement, reverse engineering, and inspection software founded on a comprehensive 3D CAD/CAM platform featuring intelligent Model-Based Definition (MBD). This unique foundation ensures data integrity and enables users to execute metrology workflows seamlessly within a CAD environment while preserving model-based digital continuity. Compatibility with all CAD file formats and universal operability with programmable and portable CMMs through the Verisurf Device Interface (VDI) further solidifies the software’s position as a versatile solution for diverse metrology applications, offering repeatable process control across the manufacturing spectrum.
